Terms of Service — CheckYrFood

By installing, opening, or using CheckYrFood ("the app", "the service"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. Who we are

2. What CheckYrFood does

CheckYrFood is a mobile application that:

• Lets you record a list of food ingredients you wish to avoid (allergens, intolerances, personal preferences)
• Scans product labels via your device's camera or photo gallery
• Cross-references on-device OCR and remote AI (Anthropic Claude) against your list
• Produces a non-binding verdict: match (likely contains an item from your list), no match (no item detected), or unclear

3. Important — medical disclaimer

CheckYrFood is informational only. It is not a medical device, not a diagnostic tool, and not a substitute for professional medical, dietary, or pharmaceutical advice.

• Always read the actual product label before consuming any item
• For severe allergies (e.g. anaphylactic risk), consult a physician and never rely on automated tools alone
• The app's AI may make errors, miss ingredients, mislabel synonyms, or misread blurry text
• We do not guarantee accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any medical purpose

You use this app at your own risk. Decisions about food consumption are your responsibility.

4. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use CheckYrFood. By using the app, you confirm you meet this requirement.

5. Your responsibilities

You agree to:

• Use the app in accordance with applicable law
• Provide accurate information about your allergens (the app cannot warn you about items you do not list)
• Not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or interfere with the app's security mechanisms
• Not use the app to harm others (e.g. submitting deceptive content to skew AI results for malicious purposes)

You acknowledge that:

• You are responsible for reading and verifying every product label
• The app's verdicts are suggestions, not guarantees
• Network outages, server limits, or AI errors may prevent the app from working

6. Free tier and paid features

The app may include free and paid features. Paid features (if offered in the future) will be clearly identified and managed via the platform's billing system (App Store, Google Play, RevenueCat).

Free-tier usage may be subject to rate limits (daily/monthly scan quotas) to control operational costs.

7. Intellectual property

• The CheckYrFood app, name, design, and code are owned by the operator
• Lottie animations and icons used in the app are licensed from their respective creators (see in-app About / acknowledgments)
• AI-generated verdicts are produced by Anthropic's Claude models; the underlying model is owned by Anthropic, PBC
• You retain ownership of photos you capture; they are processed transiently and not retained by us

8. Privacy

Our handling of your data is described in the Privacy Policy. Please read it carefully.

Summary: most data stays on your device. When you scan, the image and your allergen list are sent to Anthropic via our Cloudflare Worker proxy for AI analysis. We do not collect personal identifiers.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• The operator is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to health damages from missed or misclassified allergens
• The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind
• If you suffer an allergic reaction or other harm, your remedy is limited to uninstalling the app

This limitation does not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded (e.g. gross negligence under Romanian law).

10. Service availability

We may, at any time and without notice:

• Modify, suspend, or discontinue the service
• Change features or pricing
• Update these Terms
• Limit free-tier usage

We will give reasonable notice for material changes when feasible.

11. Termination

You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it or by using Settings → Delete everything to wipe local data.

We may suspend or terminate access for users who breach these Terms.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Romanian law. Any dispute will be resolved by the competent Romanian courts where the operator is registered.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms. Material changes will be communicated in the app. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
